In 2023, the number of employed persons in Hungary aged 15–74 reached about 4.724 million, while the employment rate for people aged 15–64 rose to around 74.8%, the highest level recorded by recent labour-force surveys.
By 2024, employment held relatively steady at about 4.699 million, though the number of potential inactive persons increased and job vacancies decreased. The national unemployment rate rose to roughly 4.5%.
As of August 2025, the gross average monthly wage for full-time employees was approximately HUF 683.300 (1700 EUR), up about +8.7% compared to the previous year. The net average monthly wage stood around HUF 472.600, reflecting an increase of about +9.2% over 2024. Real wages, after accounting for inflation, rose by roughly +4.7% compared with the previous year.
Overall, these figures suggest that the Hungarian labour market remains relatively robust: employment levels are high, and wages continue to increase, offering many workers a real improvement their in living conditions.
