Italy

Italy is an ensemble of art, culture, natural landscapes, traditions…in a word, diversity. It has been, since antiquity, the centre of history, culture and art.  Italian museums, collections and archaeological sites reveal countless tokens of the past and the many civilizations that have passed across this country.

Italian artistic and cultural heritage is one of the most valuable in the world. Italy has more cultural UNESCO World Heritage Sites than any other country. Rome, Florence, Assisi, Venice, Siena, Pisa, and Naples are its most renowned cities of art, but the whole country can boast towns of great beauty.  

Italy is also part of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Council. The routes are an invitation to travel and to discover the rich and diverse heritage of Europe by bringing people and places together in networks of shared history and heritage. They provide a wealth of leisure and educational activities for all citizens across Europe and beyond and are key resources for responsible tourism and sustainable development. They cover a range of different themes, from architecture and landscape to religious influences, from gastronomy and intangible heritage to the major figures of European art, music and literature.
