112 is the European emergency number that can be dialled free of charge from a landline or mobile phone anywhere in the EU, including Italy. It allows direct access to emergency services: police, ambulance, fire brigade. In case of emergency in Italy, you can dial also 999.
To call an ambulance, simply dial the single number for medical emergencies 118. The number is available 24 hours a day, free of charge and can be reached from any phone (landline or mobile) even without credit.
